Wemos is pleased to welcome three new members to our Supervisory Board: Ingrid van de Stadt, Ruud van den Hurk and Thomas van den Akker. With their professional expertise, relevant networks and experience, they will actively contribute to our organisation’s course and further strengthen our position and (global) ambitions. The three new members will join our supervisory board as of April 2021.
Ingrid van de Stadt currently works as Regional Marketing Director Emerging Markets at Elsevier in Amsterdam. As a senior marketing expert, she has over 30 years of experience in the international science and business fields, as well as in strategic communication towards (public) organizations. She has also led intercultural and cross-functional teams at Elsevier for over 30 years. She started her career at Lifecodes Corp. and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals in the United States. Van de Stadt studied Biology at the University of Utrecht and followed management courses at Northwestern University in Chicago (United States), University of Groningen and Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her area of focus within the Supervisory Board will be communication.
Ruud van den Hurk held the position of Executive Director at ActionAid in Amsterdam from 2008 to early 2020. Before that, he held leadership positions at various organisations in the Netherlands and abroad, such as Simavi, International Care and Relief (United Kingdom) and InterAid (Kenya). He also has a background in telecommunications and has worked in the business sector in East Africa. Van den Hurk studied Social Geography at the University of Amsterdam. He will join our Board with a focus on governance and finance and will participate in the audit committee.
Thomas van den Akker currently works as Professor of Global Maternal Health at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and as an obstetrician gynaecologist at the Leiden University Medical Center. He previously worked in Malawi for four years as a physician specialised in international health and tropical medicine. He also worked for Médecins Sans Frontières for a number of years. Van den Akker studied Medicine at Leiden University. In 2012, he obtained his PhD with his thesis “Medical mirrors: maternal care in a Malawian district” at the Vrije University Amsterdam. Since then he has been involved as a researcher and (co)promotor in reproductive health care projects in many different countries, especially in southern Africa. His area of focus within our Board will be global health.
Our Supervisory Board (normally) consists of five members: a chairperson, a secretary and three general members. With the arrival of the three new members, two current members – Bart Bosveld and Jannie Riteco – will leave the board. At the end of 2021, Joep Verboeket will also step down as a member. The Board will then consist of five members again, including Ed Rütters and Lejo van der Heiden.
With much gratitude, Wemos would like to thank our leaving members Bosveld and Riteco for their dedication and commitment to our organisation over the past years! And to our three new members we would like to extend a warm welcome to Wemos!
