The new website of the Health Workers For All Coalition is online now. The coalition, currently consisting of 28 members – one of which is Wemos – seeks to give civil society a platform and voice to ensure access to health workers for all worldwide.
The Health Workers For All Coalition aims to bring together civil society organizations with an expertise in human resources for health worldwide. It facilitates to implement advocacy strategies with a united civil society voice. The need for action is urgent. We are currently facing a global health worker crisis, with a projected shortfall of 18 million health workers worldwide, an unequal distribution of the workforce at all levels and unequal access to skilled health workers.
Discussions lack the essential element: health workers
The Health Workers For All Coalition believes that civil society organizations have the power to play an essential role in the global and national policy-making and action on human resources for health (HRH), like policies aimed at safeguarding decent working conditions for health workers. A sustainable health workforce is fundamental to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all, and to attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets.
Global health advocate Jorge Vega Cardenas: ‘Governments are constantly discussing universal health coverage, but the conversation is lacking an essential element: health workers. The Health Workers for All Coalition will make sure that everyone everywhere has access to a skilled, motivated and supported health workforce within a strong health system.’
