Julia Hochberger
Global health expert
“Health is a human right and therefore a collective responsibility. Healthcare is a complex and interdisciplinary field, and sustainable policies require an intersectional and human rights-focused approach, leaving no one behind. Power asymmetries, resources restrictions and market dynamics create stark differences in access to medicines globally.
At Wemos, we join forces and advocate for systemic change to ensure that healthcare everywhere is available for everyone.”
Julia is a global health expert in the Access to Medicines team at Wemos. She is a health law jurist specialized in intellectual property rights, licensing strategies and health system strengthening, with a focus on affordability and accessibility of health products for vulnerable populations.
Julia is also experienced in health financing systems for sexual and reproductive health and rights. Her expertise ranges from health financing, debt burden management, public financing for health and universal health coverage.
Prior to joining Wemos, she reviewed the development and opportunities of the WHO Covid-19 Technology Access Pool. In 2021, she worked with the German Agency for International Development Cooperation (GIZ) in the global project BACKUP. In this role, she provided technical assistance for health system strengthening, sexual and reproductive health and rights and equity within the Covid-19 responses in Cameroon, Malawi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Julia holds a Bachelor of Law (Maastricht University) and a Master in Healthcare Law (Erasmus University Rotterdam), specializing in sexual and reproductive health and rights, intellectual property rights and human rights in healthcare.
