From relationship and sexuality education to access to contraception and safe abortion: to give girls and women the opportunity to develop, access to sexual and reproductive health and rights is indispensable.
Being able to decide for yourself about your own body is life-defining. The same applies to the choice of whether, when and how many children you would like. Therefore, sexual and reproductive health and rights are a prerequisite for equality. It determines whether girls and women can complete school, what their position is on the labour market and to what extent they are economically and socially (in)dependent.
On Tuesday April 2, the SRHR platform, a partnership between 11 social organizations, presented the ‘SRHR Box’ in the House of Representatives. With a magazine and various goodies, the SRHR platform tells MPs about the importance of SRHR in foreign policy. MPs Roelien Kamminga, Danielle Hirsch and Joris Thijssen received the box, as did employees of the Socialist Party and the BBB BoerBurgerBeweging.
Curious about the magazine? Here you will find more information about what investing in sexual and reproductive health and rights really means. For health, poverty and the climate. For people with disabilities, for girls and for LGBT+ people. Be inspired and informed by the stories in this magazine. You can read it here (in Dutch).
The SRHR platform consists of Aidsfonds, Soa Aids Nederland, Amref Flying Doctors, CHOICE for Youth & Sexuality, COC Nederland, Hivos, Liliane Fonds, Oxfam Novib, Plan International, Rutgers, RNW Media, VSO and Wemos.
