Call to parliament for sustainable Dutch contributions to development

Members of parliament can push to revise the planned cuts in the budget of development cooperation, so that the Netherlands can continue to contribute structurally to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. We are deeply concerned about the impact the announced cuts will have on the lives and health of the poorest and most vulnerable people worldwide. The cuts of 3.4 billion euro to the development cooperation budget are partly motivated by the rising costs of the first-year reception of asylum seekers, which are paid from the development cooperation budget. This will eventually make the Netherlands the largest recipient of its own development funds, while our contribution to a just world and global health is shrinking. We wrote to members of parliament to call for a review of the plans.
