After months of negotiations, PVV, VVD, NSC and BBB presented their government agreement. Wemos is shocked and very concerned about the planned cuts in development cooperation: from 350 million in 2025, to 550 million in 2026 and 2.4 billion a year from 2027. We find this an incomprehensible choice. Such an enormous cut will do much harm to the positive impact of the Dutch commitment to international development in recent years. Efforts that are desperately needed right now: in the field of global health, but also on related challenges, such as poverty, human rights, climate change, safety and food security. All complex problems that require cooperation and investment across our borders.
As a Partos member, we support Partos’ call (in Dutch) for the coalition to reverse the cuts in development cooperation.
