We are honored and proud that our video ‘Make pooling work for Covid-19 vaccines’ has been nominated for the Hoogvlieger Award 2022 (High Flyer Award) by the Expertise Centre for Humanitarian Communication! This Dutch award is given annually to the best (or most successful) campaign of a Dutch INGO, simultaneously with the ‘Fly in the Eye Award’ to the worst (or least successful) campaign of a Dutch INGO.
On its website, the Expertise Centre for Humanitarian Communication explains the five nominations for the Hoogvlieger Award 2022. They chose the video by Wemos “because their explainer on the fair sharing of Covid vaccines based on a ‘pooling mechanism’ is a clear and factual story, but also makes a sharp statement about justice. […] the use of an explainer like Wemos’ is a hit as far as we are concerned.” They also praise the fact that the video refers to more information on a dedicated webpage.
The explanation precisely captures our intention in making the video: we wanted to explain in an easy way what the solution to the unequal global access to Covid-19 vaccines is, while also making clear how unjust the current situation is. Moreover, we wanted to direct interested viewers to more background information.
Ultimately, of course, it is up to the audience to judge whether our intention comes across. This nomination confirms that we succeeded in doing so. And that is very valuable, because when awareness about this subject grows, so does the chance that politicians, pharmaceutical companies and other stakeholders will take the right steps to realise equal global access to life-saving medical products.
Winners announced on 8 July
